It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of PC 1108 Sandro Grech, a dedicated police officer from the Malta Police Union. Sandro’s loss is deeply mourned by his family, colleagues, and the entire community who had the privilege of knowing him. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. His strength, courage, and unwavering commitment to those around him will never be forgotten.
Sandro’s life was marked by his relentless fight against a rare and aggressive form of leukaemia, a battle he faced with extraordinary resilience and bravery. Diagnosed in January 2023, Sandro underwent numerous treatments, including chemotherapy and two bone marrow transplants, with his brother Roberto being his donor. Despite the challenging journey, Sandro remained steadfast in his fight, capturing the hearts of many with his unwavering spirit. His determination never wavered, and he fought until the very end, inspiring all who knew him.
In addition to his strength, Sandro was a father who deeply loved his family, and his role as a devoted parent shone brightly throughout his life. The support he received from the Maltese community, including the Prime Minister, the Government, and countless citizens, was a testament to the love and respect Sandro earned during his life. In his final weeks, Sandro traveled to Beijing for specialized treatment, after raising €500,000 with the help of the public. Despite all efforts to support his recovery, Sandro’s battle with cancer ended, leaving an irreplaceable void.
Sandro’s passing marks the end of a remarkable journey. His dedication to his work and family, and the courage with which he faced his illness, will forever be remembered. The grief surrounding his loss is shared by many, but his legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the many who were inspired by his story.
