We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Eunika Weatherford Stratton, a beloved educator at Dudley Head Start and a devoted member of the Metro Action family. Eunika passed away following a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to the children and families she served.
For 21 years, Eunika faithfully served Metro Action, beginning her journey in 2005 at North Head Start. Throughout her distinguished career, she also taught at the McNeilly Center, later returned to North, and most recently became an integral part of the Dudley Head Start team in 2022. Across each location, she carried the same commitment to excellence and the same heartfelt devotion to early childhood education. Her classroom was more than a place of learning—it was a space filled with encouragement, patience, and genuine care.
Eunika’s impact extended far beyond lesson plans and daily routines. She nurtured young minds during their most formative years, helping to shape confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Families trusted her not only as a teacher, but as a mentor and steady presence in their children’s lives. Colleagues knew her as dependable, thoughtful, and deeply compassionate—a true team player who offered support and kindness without hesitation.
Even during her illness, Eunika demonstrated extraordinary resilience and grace. Just weeks ago, she attended the funeral of fellow colleague Jassy Guinn-Smith, a testament to her loyalty and the deep bonds she formed within the Dudley Head Start community. Her strength in the face of adversity was both humbling and inspiring to all who witnessed it.
Her passing leaves an immeasurable void within Dudley Head Start and the broader Metro Action community. The lives she touched—children, parents, coworkers, and friends—stand as a living testament to her dedication and love.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, at Smith Brothers Funeral Home, 706 Monroe Street, from 2:00–5:00 PM, and on Saturday, February 28, at St. Matthew Baptist Church, 2412 Osage Street, from 11:00 AM–12:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM.
We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Eunika’s family during this profoundly difficult time. Please keep them, along with the Dudley Head Start community, in your thoughts and prayers as we honor and remember her remarkable life and service.
