The passing of 14-year-old Aleena Preetam has left her family, friends, and the wider Essequibo Coast community in profound sorrow. Aleena, who died a few days ago at her home in Supenaam, was taken far too soon, and her loss is being deeply felt by all who knew her.
According to a statement from Police Headquarters, an autopsy was conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, who determined that Aleena’s cause of death was heart failure and anaemia. Following the examination, her body was respectfully handed over to her family for burial.
Reports indicate that Aleena passed away sometime between 19:30 hrs on Sunday, February 22, and 05:30 hrs on Monday, February 23, at her residence. Preliminary enquiries revealed that she had been last seen alive on Sunday evening. At approximately 05:30 hrs on Monday, family members attempted to wake her but found her unresponsive. She was immediately escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced her dead. Authorities confirmed that upon examination, no marks of violence were observed. Investigations remain ongoing and will address all relevant matters arising from the circumstances surrounding her passing.
Beyond the official details, Aleena’s death is an immeasurable personal tragedy. She was a young girl standing at the threshold of life, with hopes, dreams, and a future that should have stretched far ahead of her. Recently having given birth to a one-month-old child, she had already stepped into the role of motherhood—an experience that brings both joy and immense responsibility.
