It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude that we remember the life and priestly ministry of Fr. Jerry Schetter.
Fr. Jerry passed away last night/early this morning at his priest residence in Napoleon at St. Augustine. His sudden passing has come as a profound shock to all who knew and loved him, especially as he was present just yesterday at Immaculate Conception for the funeral Mass of Elma Kaufman. Seeing him faithfully serving at the altar, standing before the tabernacle, makes this loss even more difficult to comprehend.
Fr. Jerry served as Pastor of Ottoville Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Barbara in Cloverdale from 2013 to 2022. During those years, he shepherded his parish communities with devotion, humility, and unwavering faith. His leadership extended beyond spiritual guidance; he worked diligently to rebuild St. Barbara Church and oversaw the construction of the Immaculate Conception rectory, leaving a lasting and visible legacy of dedication and stewardship.
More importantly, Fr. Jerry built up the Church in the hearts of the faithful. He was a compassionate pastor, a thoughtful homilist, and a faithful servant of Christ who walked closely with his parishioners in moments of joy and sorrow alike. Whether celebrating the sacraments, offering counsel, or sharing fellowship, he carried out his vocation with sincerity and love.
We extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to his siblings, his entire family, and the parish community of St. Augustine in Napoleon. We also hold in prayer the communities of Immaculate Conception and St. Barbara, who were blessed by his years of faithful service. May they find comfort in the memories of his guidance, friendship, and steadfast faith.
Fr. Jerry’s life was a testament to devoted priesthood and selfless ministry. His kindness, steady presence, and pastoral heart touched countless lives. While we grieve his passing, we also give thanks for the gift he was to our parishes and to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Thank you, Fr. Jerry, for your faithful service, your friendship, and your love. May the angels lead you into Paradise, and may you rest in the eternal peace of Christ.
